Great program last night by Brenda Dew of Retrieving Independence

Brenda shared with us the amazing things that prison inmates are able to do in training dogs to assist persons with disabilities. To name a few, the dogs can retrieve things from the refrigerator, put mail in the mail box and raise the flag, flush the toilet, run hot and cold water, push buttons, warn a person with diabeties if their blood sugar is low, not to mention changing the lives of the inmates themselves. We got to meet Charlie, her golden retriever who is trained to assist persons with diabeties. Retrieving Independence provides trained service dogs for about $15,000 to $20,000 each, which is a significantly lower price than currently available by most sources. Their goal is to provide the dogs at no cost. For more information or to donate go to: http://retrievingindependence.org/

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help,
or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To thee do I come,
before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.
